# Server settings

> Change the default volume, notifications, crossfade, autoplay, and voice channel status.

The `/settings` commands change eara for the whole server, not only for
you, and need the **Manage Server** permission.

Every setting works the same way: run the command **without a value** to see the
current setting, or **with a value** to change it. When you check a setting,
only you can see the reply.

## Default volume

`/settings default_volume value:60` [or use the dashboard](https://eara.io/dashboard/servers)

The volume eara starts at, from `0` to `250`. Changing it requires a **top.gg**
vote; viewing it doesn't.

This only sets the starting volume. Use `/volume` to change the volume of
music that's already playing.

## Notifications channel

`/settings notifications channel value:#music` [or use the dashboard](https://eara.io/dashboard/servers)

eara posts now-playing messages to this channel. If it isn't set, they go to the
channel where eara was started, such as where someone ran `/play`. Setting a
channel requires a vote.

To remove the channel (no vote needed):

`/settings notifications channel reset:true`

## Crossfade

`/settings crossfade value:8` [or use the dashboard](https://eara.io/dashboard/servers)

Fades each song into the next, from `0` to `30` seconds. Use `0` to turn it off.

> Crossfade needs **Premium**. Without Premium, you can view the value but not

## Autoplay

`/settings autoplay value:true` [or use the dashboard](https://eara.io/dashboard/servers)

When the queue runs out, eara keeps playing recommended songs. It's off by
default and free for everyone.

## Voice channel status

`/settings update_vc_status value:true` [or use the dashboard](https://eara.io/dashboard/servers)

eara sets the voice channel status to the song that's playing. This is also
free; turn it off if you don't want eara changing the status.

## If a setting won't change

Read the reply. It tells you whether you need a vote, Premium, or the
**Manage Server** permission.
