# Using audio effects

> Change how a song sounds with bassboost, nightcore, slowed + reverb, and spatial audio.

Effects change how the music sounds. Each one is a toggle: run the same command
again to turn it off.

## The effects

Every effect is a subcommand of `/effects`. Press play to hear
each one on the same clip, and compare with the

You can stack effects, such as bassboost with slowed + reverb.

Some effects conflict. Turning one on turns off the ones it conflicts with:

- `nightcore`, `slowed_reverb`, `vaporwave`, and `dreamscape` don't work with
  each other.
- `club_bathroom` doesn't work with any of those, or with `bassboost`.

## Spatial audio

`/immersive` adds two more effects:

  your head, sometimes called 8D audio.
- [sample](https://eara.io/help/effects/spatialize.mp3) `/immersive spatialize` — the sound feels
  wider but stays in place.

Spatial audio is best heard with headphones.
- `/immersive off` — turns spatial audio off.

## Voting and how long effects last

Effects are free to try. How long they last depends on whether you've voted:

- **Without a vote**, an effect only applies to the **current song** and resets
  when the next one starts.
- **If you've voted for eara on top.gg**, effects stay on until you turn them
  off. One vote lasts 12 hours. `/effects clear` and every `/immersive`
  command also require a vote.

## Good to know

- You need to be in eara's voice channel, and a song must be playing.
- Effects apply to everyone in the channel, not only you.
- After you change an effect, give eara a second to apply it.
